Press statement second Ebola case 20th January 2016

A second case of Ebola was confirmed late Wednesday, 20 January after the blood sample of a high risk contact linked to the index case, tested positive for Ebola Virus Disease. 

Press Statement Confirmation of EVD Death in Sierra Leone – 16 January 2016

The Ministry of Health and Sanitation confirms a positive swab Ebola case after the death of a 22 year old female student at Magburaka town in Tonkolili district on 12 January 2016.

A swab team collected a swab sample and after three positive results confirmed at an accredited laboratory in Makeni, a second accreditatedlaboratory in Kambia reconfirmed the results.


The general public is informed of a high risk contact to the Tonkolili Ebola index case, who is believed to have travelled to the Western Area Urban by boat from Kambia district on Saturday, 16 January 2016.

Sheik Osman Kamara is the stepfather to the deceased index case and hosted her in Kambia.  He is five foot tall, dark in complexion between the ages of 35 to 45 years old. He is an Islamic scholar and was last seen around Pademba Road in Freetown on Saturday.
